January, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by President Lois Ann Johnson.

There were 34 people in attendance. $20.30 was collected from donations.

Lisa Masnova read the minutes from the December 2010 meeting. Kelley Laughlin made a motion to accept; Carl F.  seconded; motion carried.

Per Lois Ann Johnson, our bank balance is $644.01 as of January 26, 2011.

New/Old Business

Per Lois Ann Johnson, the plaque for the display case has been re-done and will be presented to the Interpretative Center.

Lori Patterson and Kelley Laughlin will get together and decide a program for February.

Jeffrey K. will be the presenter for the March program. His presentation will be "growing crystals". Thanks Jeffrey!!

Barry P.  mentioned the Menominee earthquake and he wondered if maybe Shawn knows someone who would be willing to give a presentation on the subject.

The website was brought up. Kelley stated he is working on the site trying to rebuild everything. He stated it is now going to cost the Club $107.40 per year to keep the site up and running. If the Club wanted to, the site could be run off of Kelley’s site for zero money. Ann K. made a motion to pay the $107.40 to keep the Club’s site; Barry P. seconded; motion carried.

Lisa Masnova brought up the matter of the minutes not being on the website. Kelley Laughlin stated he was working on this also.

Marlin R. donated items for the display case.

Eleanor "Penny" R. suggested having a separate donation "cup" for coffee, sweets, etc. It was stated by Lois Ann Johnson that our donation basket money has been and can be used for coffee, sweets, etc.

Future field trips were discussed. The Club would like to have the list ready to go so when the weather warms up, everyone will be ready. The following trips were mentioned:

a. Larry Z. will notify the Club when the Amberg quarry has the "historical walk";

b. Carl F. spoke with his son’s teacher and received permission for the Club to tour the Trader’s Mine in Iron Mountain (behind Bay College);

c. Taylor Mine was also discussed;

d. Marlin R. also brought up a site by L’Anse.

Lisa Masnova is to contact the Midwest Federation and find out when dues are due, etc.

Lori Patterson made a motion to adjourn; seconded by Kelley Laughlin; motion carried. Adjourned at 7:05 p.m.

The program for January was presented by Lois Ann Johnson and Lori Patterson. They presented rock specimens, handouts with pictures and informational material on the rocks they found in South Dakota.

Door prizes were donated by Lois Ann Johnson and Kelley Laughlin. Also a silent auction was held with partial proceeds going to the Club.
